Tallard and the Ladderbird is an original musical puppet theatre production which opens at the iMPAC Film Festival (Pretoria, South Africa) in September 2015. This production tells the tale of Tallard, an ungainly and uncomfortably tall girl who struggles to find her place in the world. When she one day coughs up an egg that is believed to bring peace once hatched, she sets off on a mission to do so. Along the way, she meets Longdawg, a lengthy and loving dog who becomes a welcome companion on her dangerous journey.

Tallard and the Ladderbird

The artistry in this project already looks amazing, judging from early production photographs. Tallard and the Ladderbird was helped along by a successful crowdfunding campaign which, although finished, is still worth taking a look at. This is a great opportunity for fans of the arts to see something spectacular, and support real, exciting local art. As part of the iMPAC Festival, there will be two performances of Tallard and the Ladderbird: On 19 and 21 Sept at 19h00 at the SAX Arena on the Open Window campus in Centurion.

This theatre production will feature large-scale, parade-style puppets and an original score composed by Pieter Bezuidenhout. The Horizons Project Choir will help bring the music to life, and these shows include a special guest performance by Laurika Rauch. Hear a sample of the music below.
