Every December, I make a list of my 10 favourite movies of the year. We’ll call it “Top 10 movies of 2015”, but it doesn’t reflect box office performance, critical reception, or public consensus. This is just one person’s recommendation of 10 great films that were released in the past year. Now, counting down to #1 – Floris’ Top 10 movies of 2015:
I don’t know if there’s ever been a movie with higher expectations than Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Okay, maybe The Phantom Menace, but that’s the black sheep of the family we don’t talk about. The pressure to get things right must have been extreme. I’m pretty surprised director JJ Abrams even survived the ordeal.
It’s finally here – the day on which Marty McFly arrives in the future in 1989’s Back to the Future – Part II. After being the subject of numerous internet hoaxes, the true “Back to the Future day” is being used to celebrate the franchise’s 30 year anniversary. Also being released today is the Back to the Future blu-ray and DVD “30th anniversary edition” re-release.
What’s that? Oh, only the sequel to one of the BEST MOVIES EVER [Surprisingly, part II is a pretty good movie itself]. Being shown in a cinema. Where you can experience it with an audience.
ON THE EXACT DATE THAT MARTY MCFLY ARRIVES IN 2015 IN THE FILM.
Can you tell that I’m excited?
It’s been 3 years, 9 months and 29 days since Philadelphia Grand Jury broke up. During their one quick visit to South Africa a few years ago, they established their firm, high position on my list of best live acts I’ve seen. They were exciting, dramatic, punk-rock, emo with a touch of shoegaze, all rock-and-rolled into one. Two years later, the band broke up, frontman Berkfinger moved to Berlin and started a side project called Feelings, and the “Philly Jays” were over. But now they’re back. And to celebrate their reunion and upcoming album, they dropped a new single titled “Crashing and Burning pt II”.
