Mieliepop Festival 2017

Ticket Giveaway: Mieliepop 2017

Last year, Mieliepop Festival had everyone talking afterwards. Its boutique status means no overcrowding, its location means luxurious, lush, peaceful surroundings, and the organising team means a tightly-run ship and a diverse, kick-ass lineup of some of South Africa’s best bands. There’s no reason to think Mieliepop 2017 will be anything less. See more details below, and enter our competition to win a double ticket to this event!

BCUC. OneSight Acoustics #3 at The Good Luck Bar, 13 November.

TICKET GIVEAWAY: We were at OneSight Acoustics

It’s pretty hard to organise an event with an all-star lineup. For one thing, you can’t have every band be the headliner. So at this past Sunday’s OneSight Acoustics event at the Good Luck Bar, you’d have had to be there at 2pm already, if you wanted to see December Streets, BCUC, Reason, and DJ Invizable – all big headline acts. The next event, on 27 November, features Freshlyground, Josh Kempen, Bongeziwe Mabandla, and Half ‘n half, and we’re giving away a set of tickets below!

BCUC

BCUC: Spreading Our Truth, concentrating on the solutions

BCUC burst onto stages in the same way that their music knocked down your heart’s door. They might not be the band South Africa deserves, but they’re the band we need right now. With their debut EP Our Truth just released, and their visit to The Good Luck Bar for OneSight Acoustics this Sunday, we asked them a few questions about why taking your time is important…

The Black Cat Bones

Black Cat Bones – Expressing cross-culturally as South Africans at A Place in the Sun

After scoring the well-deserved Best Live Act MK Award a few years back, The Black Cat Bones exploded. They’ve since become the must-book band for every major music festival around the country, so there’s nothing strange about their slot at the new outskirts-of-Pretoria festival, A Place In The Sun. Oh wait, there is something strange about it: They’ll be sharing the stage with the super energetic, Soweto-based, abstract African band BCUC.

We asked Bones guitarist Andre Kriel about their band, their albums, and what A Place In The Sun will bring.

THIRD TIME LUCKY because two amazing Sunday shows with OneSight Acoustics just isn’t enough. Next Sunday (13 November), The Good Luck Bar hosts the third in a series of four events – this time featuring Reason, December Streets, BCUC, and DJ Invizable.

Capital Craft Beer Festival 2016

Capital Craft Beer Festival 2016 – Win Tickets!

The Capital Craft Beer Festival is a well-established annual highlight on Pretoria’s craft beer and live music calendar. And after last year’s great festival (but entrance & queueing problems), they’ve decided to break tradition this year, and move the event to the Pretoria National Botanical Garden. The Capital Craft Beer Festival 2016 will take place this year on Saturday 11 June. As always, it’ll be a great event to experience both new and familiar craft beers, and witness an exciting lineup of music.

Please note that the organisers are very aware of last year’s queueing issues, have resolved to fix this, and “guarantee a quick and easy entry to the festival area” this year.

“Join us at the Pretoria National Botanical Garden when we combine the age-old tradition of drinking beer with new and exciting musical acts and introduce you to a vast variety of local micro-manufactured brews.”

Mieliepop 2016 – what every festival should be

What’s the first thing you think of when you hear the term “music festival”? If you’re from Gauteng, it’s most likely dust. And crowds. And drunk youths. But then there’s Mieliepop.

Beforehand, it looked like bad weather might intrude on the weekend. But the sunshine arrived just on time. A simple, 270 km/3 hour drive from Pretoria leads you to the beautiful Tolderia Resort – a real majestic, beautiful, peaceful, green hilly area in the middle of nowhere. The trek into the resort was slightly rough after the rain, and arriving there in the dark isn’t recommended – though that really applies to any festival.

Mieliepop 2016: The full line-up & ticket giveaway

It seems that March is music festival season. In addition to Splashy Fen and Otterlake Easter Festival, and the brand new Lush Festival in Clarens on Easter weekend, Mieliepop has moved from it’s traditional October/November slot to the weekend before Easter in 2016. Monday 21 March is Human Rights day, so it’s already a long weekend, and you can always take 3 leave days to just keep partying from this festival to the next – whichever one you choose!
