Josh Kempen. At OneSight Acoustics at The Good Luck Bar this Sunday - 27 November 2016.

Josh Kempen on OneSight Acoustics and his love of naïve rock ‘n roll

Josh Kempen speaks with an unfamiliar accent, especially for a Jozi-born singer-songwriter. And it’s got something to do with having travelled the world, as far as I can tell. Having been nominated for a 2014 Wawela music award as “Songwriter of the year”, this guy’s obviously got something to say.

BCUC. OneSight Acoustics #3 at The Good Luck Bar, 13 November.

TICKET GIVEAWAY: We were at OneSight Acoustics

It’s pretty hard to organise an event with an all-star lineup. For one thing, you can’t have every band be the headliner. So at this past Sunday’s OneSight Acoustics event at the Good Luck Bar, you’d have had to be there at 2pm already, if you wanted to see December Streets, BCUC, Reason, and DJ Invizable – all big headline acts. The next event, on 27 November, features Freshlyground, Josh Kempen, Bongeziwe Mabandla, and Half ‘n half, and we’re giving away a set of tickets below!

BCUC

BCUC: Spreading Our Truth, concentrating on the solutions

BCUC burst onto stages in the same way that their music knocked down your heart’s door. They might not be the band South Africa deserves, but they’re the band we need right now. With their debut EP Our Truth just released, and their visit to The Good Luck Bar for OneSight Acoustics this Sunday, we asked them a few questions about why taking your time is important…

Shortstraw - Those Meddling Kids - OneSight Acoustics

Interview: Shortstraw on OneSight Acoustics, and Those Meddling Kids

Shortstraw has never been shy about using their status as popular indie rock band to give back. This coming weekend they’re playing at OneSight Acoustics – joining Hugh Masekela, New Academics, and Akio Kawahito in the first in a series of concerts that aim to raise funds for OneSight: a global public nonprofit organisation which provides sustainable access to quality vision care and eye wear to those who cannot afford it or do not have access to it. We caught up with Shortstraw guitarist Tom Revington about the concert, the band’s charitable nature, and what they’ve been up to lately.

Jack Parow

Jack Parow is launching his new EP: From Parow with Love

Jack Parow is back with a European collaboration EP – From Parow with Love. The story goes that, during Parow’s last tours to Europe, he met some artists from the other side of the pond, and decided to collaborate.

In typical hip-hop style, Die Ou Met Die Lang Swart Hoed has always been a fan of collaborations, but this is his most collab-heavy release yet – reaching “from Cape Town all the way to the Netherlands”.
